La
Gazette du livre médiéval s'intéresse
à tous les aspects de l'activité scientifique et professionnelle
concernant le livre (manuscrit ou imprimé) en tant que témoin
archéologique de la société médiévale
et de sa culture matérielle et intellectuelle.
|

The
interests of the Gazette du livre médiéval encompass
every aspect of scientific and professional activities in the field of
the mediaeval book (handwritten or printed) regarded as an archaeological
witness to medieval society and its material or intellectual culture.
|
|
Son
domaine chronologique s'étend de l'Antiquité à
la généralisation du livre imprimé (ca. 1530).
L'aire géographique concernée couvre l'Europe et le
bassin méditerranéen (domaine des écritures grecque,
latine, cyrillique, hébraïque, arabe).
|
|
Its
area extends chronologically from Antiquity to the spread of printed
books (ca. 1530).
Geographically, it covers Europe and the Mediterranean area (domains
of Greek, Latin, Cyrillic, Hebrew, and Arabic scripts).
|
Sont notamment
compris dans ce cadre :
- Les matériaux
constitutifs et les procédés de fabrication du livre ;
- L'écriture,
les techniques de copie ou d'impression, les procédés
de mise en page ;
- La décoration,
en tant que facteur d'enrichissement du livre ou qu'auxiliaire du
texte ;
- La reliure,
en tant que produit d'une technique médiévale ou témoin
de l'histoire des collections ;
- Le contexte
socio-économique et culturel de la production du livre (artisans
du livre et lecteurs) ;
- L'histoire
des bibliothèques anciennes et de la formation des collections
modernes ;
- Les techniques
de restauration et de conservation matérielle ;
- La gestion
des collections et l'accès des chercheurs aux documents
anciens ;
- Les problèmes
de catalographie, de documentation et de reproduction

This framework
includes in particular:
- Material components
of the book and making processes ;
- Scripts and
writing, copying and printing techniques, page design ;
- Decoration
regarded as a factor of enrichment for the book or as an auxiliary
to the text ;
- Binding regarded
as the product of a Mediaeval technique and a witness to the history
of collections ;
- The socio-economical
or cultural context of book-production (bookcraft people and readers)

- History of
ancient libraries and the formation of modern collections ;
- Restauration
and preservation techniques ;
- Collection
management and the accessibility of ancient documents to the scholars
;
- Problems in
catalography, documentation and documental reproduction

Les questions
qui relèvent essentiellement de l'histoire des textes
ou de l'histoire de l'art ne sont pas incluses dans ce domaine.

Issues pertaining
primarily to the history of texts or to art history
are not included within this scope.

La Gazette du
livre médiéval a pour objectif de contribuer au progrès
scientifique en rendant compte d'activités novatrices et en participant
au développement de méthodes nouvelles.
|
|
The aim of the Gazette
du livre médiéval is to contribute to scientific progress
by reporting on innovative activities and taking a part in the development
of new approaches.
|
Les contributions
entrant dans l'une des catégories suivantes sont particulièrement
attendues :
- Réflexions
sur les méthodes, les progrès, le statut et l'enseignement
des disciplines utiles à l'étude du livre médiéval.
- Propositions
de méthodes nouvelles dans la description, l'analyse et l'interprétation
du matériau historique ;
- Applications
de technologies nouvelles au domaine du livre médiéval ;
- Exploration
de voies nouvelles, sous forme d'orientations de recherche ou de
premiers résultats.

Contributions
that fall into one of the following categories will be specially welcome :
- Reflections
on the methods, progress, status and teaching of disciplines relevant
to the study of the medieval book.
- Proposals for
new methods in the description, analysis and interpretation of historical
material;
- Application
of new technologies in the field of the medieval book;
- Exploring new
approaches, in the form of either guidelines or research results.

Inversement, ne
sont pas acceptés les articles appartenant aux genres suivants :
- L'étude
monographique de cas particuliers ("Un cas curieux de...") ;
- Les contributions
qui ne représentent qu'une extension ou un approfondissement
de connaissances déjà acquises ("Un nouveau
cas de...").
- Les articles
de nature catalographique ("Liste des manuscrits de...").

On the other hand,
articles of the following types will be unreceivable :
- Monographic
studies of singular cases ("A surprising case of...");
- Studies that
represent only a deepening or an expansion in already established
knowledge ("More examples of...").
- Articles of
a catalographic nature ("A list of manuscripts of...")
|
L'emploi de caractères
non latins (grecs, hébreux, arabes,...) ou de caractères
de translittération (caractères enrichis de signes
diacritiques inconnus dans les langues mentionnées) est susceptible
de créer des difficultés d'impression et doit être
limité à ce qui est strictement nécessaire.
|
|
Using non-Latin
characters (Greek, Hebrew, Arabic,...), or special characters
for transliteration (characters with diacritical marks not in daily
use in any of the languages just mentioned) is likely to raise problems
for printing and should be limited to what is strictly necessary.
|
Ceci s'applique
en particulier aux caractères grecs, dont l'encodage sur
les ordinateurs personnels n'est généralement pas compatible
avec le matériel des typographes, ce qui exige le plus souvent
une délicate recomposition du texte.
|
|
This is particularly
the case with Greek characters, the encoding of which on personal
computers is scarcely compatible with typographic devices, and demand
therefore that the text be accurately re-entered.
|
Les textes doivent
être adressés à la Rédaction sous forme
de fichiers de traitement de texte, au format *.DOC
ou *.RTF. Les formats *.PDF
ou *.HTML ne sont pas
transposables en typographie.

The texts should
reach the Redaction in the form of word-processed files, in *.DOC
or *RTF format. *.PDF
and *.HTML formats cannot
be converted into a typographic form.
|
Il est inutile
d'y introduire des raffinements dans la mise en page, celle-ci devant
dans tous les cas être reformatée conformément
aux usages de la revue.

|
It is idle to
set up elaborated layouts, as the texts will always have to be reformatted
in accordance to the journal's practice.
|
|
Notes
et bibliographie
Soucieuse de préserver
son caractère de bulletin d'information scientifique (qui la
distingue des revues d'érudition classiques), la GLM
ne publie que des articles sans notes de bas de page. Les auteurs
feront en sorte d'intégrer dans le texte les remarques incidentes
qui s'avèrent nécessaires.

Notes and bibliography
In order to preserve
its character as a scientific information bulletin (as opposed to
conventional scholarly journals), the GLM does not print footnotes
to the articles. Should incidental remarks be necessary, the authors
will have to integrate them within the text.
|
Les références
bibliographiques indispensables peuvent être regroupées
dans un court appendice final. Elles doivent être limitées
à l'essentiel et ne pas dépasser 7,5% de la longueur
totale de l'article (soit une page au maximum pour les articles les
plus longs).
|
|
Essential references
may be grouped in a short final appendix. They must be limited to
basics and not exceed 7.5% of the total length of the article (i. e.
one page at most for the longest articles).
|
|
Illustrations
Les articles peuvent
être accompagnés des figures et illustrations nécessaires
à leur compréhension. Ceux-ci ne devront pas occuper,
en tout, plus de 25% de la longueur totale de l'article.
|
|
Illustration
Articles may be
accompanied by figures and illustrations inasmuch as these are necessary
for understanding. On the whole, they should not occupy more than
25% of the total length of the paper.
|
Dans tous
les cas où la chose est possible, on préférera
des illustrations au trait. Les techniques utilisées pour
l'impression de la revue ne permettent pas de garantir une excellente
qualité pour les illustrations en demi-teintes (niveaux de gris).
|
|
Whenever it is
possible, line-drawn illustrations are to be preferred.The
techniques used for printing our journal cannot guarantee a high quality
for the reproduction of half-tone (grayscale) pictures.
|
Les images
incorporées dans des documents élaborés sous
traitement de texte sont inutilisables pour l'impression.
|
|
Images embedded
in word-processed documents cannot be used for printing.
|
Les figures
devront être fournies sous forme de fichiers séparés,
au format *.TIF (de préférence) ou *.JPG.
Dans tous les cas, une résolution de 300 PpP est recommandée.
|
|
The illustrations
should be submitted in separate files, in *.TIF (preferably)
or *.JPG format. In any case, a resolution of 300 DPI
is strongly advisable.
|
Dans le cas de
graphiques créés au moyen d'un tableur ou d'un logiciel
statistique, il est recommandé de fournir les données
originelles pour permettre les conversions nécessaires.
|
|
In the case of
charts generated with a spreadsheet or a statistical software, it
is recommended to provide the original data in order to allow necessary
conversions.
|
Une légende
devra être fournie pour chaque illustration. Il est préférable
d'inclure les indications utiles dans cette légende plutôt
que de les incorporer à la figure elle-même.
|
|
A legend must
be provided for each illustration. Including any useful information
in these legends should be preferred to incorporating it in the figure
itself.
|
La Rédaction
se réserve la possibilité de réduire les dimensions
des figures ou de les regrouper en fonction des impératifs
de la mise en page.
|
|
The Editors retain
the possibility of reducing the size of the illustrations or grouping
them according to the imperatives of the layout.
|
L'utilisation
de couleurs est totalement exclue.
|
|
The use of colours
is definitely out of question.
|
|
Epreuves et délais
de parution
Dans le cas normal,
les articles pourront être publiés dans le prochain fascicule
à paraître, soit six mois au plus après leur soumission.

|
Proofs and Publication
Delay
In usual practice,
the articles will be published in the fothcoming issue, i. e.
not later than six months after they were submitted.
|
Afin de préserver
un rythme de parution très rapide (indispensable au suivi « en
temps réel » de l'actualité scientifique),
la GLM se dispense normalement de soumettre des épreuves
aux auteurs. La fourniture du texte sous forme informatisée
garantit normalement la conformité du texte imprimé.
Les auteurs seront néanmoins consultés si des impératifs
majeurs imposent d'apporter des modifications à leur texte.

|
To maintain a
fast pace of issuance (which is essential for reporting scientific
news in "real time"), the GLM normally avoids to
provide the authors with proofs. Submitting the text in electronic
form will normally ensures the conformity of the printed result. Nevertheless,
the authors will be consulted if compulsory reasons require changes
to be made in their text.

Les auteurs recevront
trois exemplaires du fascicule dans lequel leur contribution a été
publiée. Il leur sera en outre fourni un exemplaire de leur
texte dans sa mise en page définitive, au format PDF, pour
leur permettre de produire eux-mêmes des « tirés-à-part »
à leur convenance.

The authors will
receive three copies of the issue in which their contribution has
been published. They will also be provided a copy of the text in its
final layout, in PDF format, to enable them to produce themselves
"offprints" at their convenience.
